Solar cleaning, explained simply

The things people ask us most, without the sales talk. If your question is not here, call us or send it through and we will answer it honestly.

How often should solar panels be cleaned?

Most Australian homes do well with a clean every 6 to 12 months. Coastal, dusty, rural and tree-lined sites, plus anywhere with bird traffic, are better off every 6 months. Commercial roofs, solar farms and infrastructure usually run on a scheduled program because the lost output adds up quickly.

How much power do dirty panels actually lose?

Between 15% and 25% of output in typical Australian conditions, and more after a long dry spell or a bird problem. Our free calculator turns that into a dollar figure for your own system in about 30 seconds.

Does rain clean my panels for me?

No. Rain moves loose dust around but leaves a bonded film of grime, salt, pollen and bird droppings behind, and it often dries into streaks along the bottom edge of each panel, which is exactly where output is lost.

What do you clean with, and is it safe for my panels?

Natural biodegradable cleaning agents and panel-safe soft brushes. No harsh chemicals, abrasives or high-pressure blasting. The method is designed to clean effectively without scratching the glass or putting the panel warranty at risk.

What is the protective treatment?

An optional topical coating applied after the clean. It makes the glass slicker so dust and droppings have less to hold onto, which keeps panels performing better for longer between visits.

Do I get proof the job was done properly?

Yes. Every clean includes a free before and after report with photos, plus a visual check of frames, clamps and cabling so you hear about problems early.

How fast do I get a quote, and does it cost anything?

A free quote within 30 minutes of asking, in most cases. There is no site visit fee and no obligation to book. We confirm most details ourselves before quoting, so all we need from you is your address, how we get in, and whether there is power and water on site.

Do I need to be home?

Not usually. As long as we can reach the panels and any gates are unlocked, we can clean while you are out and send the report through afterwards.

Is it safe to clean my own panels?

We would not recommend it. Wet roofs, height work and live electrical equipment are a bad mix, and tap water plus a household cleaner often leaves mineral deposits that make the problem worse. We are fully insured and height safety compliant.

Where in Australia do you work?

Metro and regional areas across all eight states and territories, for homes, business and industrial estates, solar farms, councils, roadside signage and infrastructure.

Still got a question?

Send us your address and we will come back with a fixed price, the next available date, and an answer to anything you are unsure about, usually within 30 minutes.
